Mike Yip is an experienced music educator, performer and composer with over 20 years of teaching experience.
With a strong background in Jazz and Improvisation, Mike is also proficient in a wide range of musical styles including Pop, Rock, Blues, Folk and Funk. He has taught students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced players, helping them develop technical skills, musical understanding and confidence in their playing.
Mike believes that every student learns differently. By tailoring lessons to individual interests and goals, he helps students stay motivated while building strong foundations in technique, musicianship and creativity.
Students may choose to work towards graded examinations, learn favourite songs and styles, develop improvisation skills, or simply play for enjoyment. Mike is familiar with both Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop examination syllabuses and has successfully prepared many students for examinations and performances.
Before relocating to Northern Ireland in 2021, Mike taught music at university and tertiary level in Hong Kong. He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Music Composition from the University of Hong Kong and achieved Rockschool Grade 8 Guitar with Distinction.
Today, Mike continues to combine his experience as an educator and musician to help students develop confidence, creativity and a lifelong enjoyment of music.
